LEXINGTON MOON LLC

Lexington Moon Pedigree
Bay, Colt, Foaled 03/17/2022 — Purchased for $55,000
Malibu Moon - Sensible Match, by Street Sense

Offering Detail

When sharp-eyed agent Alistair Roden sent us his hand-held video of a colt in the final crop of super-sire Malibu Moon colt, Mike Pons drove 600 miles to Lexington for the two-day Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter Sale (Feb. 6-7), where he personally inspected the colt, huddled with Alistair, agreed that the colt was exceptional, requested and received a clean veterinary report (A+ Scope, no issues), and on Tuesday afternoon purchased the colt for $55,000.

We had been holding a name in reserve with The Jockey Club for a Malibu Moon colt down the road someday — and this is that someday. The Jockey Club released the name Lexington Moon.  (The 19th-century stallion Lexington led the Sire List 16 times. The 21st-century stallion Malibu Moon was likewise one of the leading sires of his era.)

Lexington Moon’s mother is the young Street Sense mare Sensible Match, who cost $125,000 at the 2014 Saratoga Select Yearling Sale.  Her dam, Miss Matched, won the Grade 3, $150,000 Dogwood Breeders Cup Stakes at Churchill Downs after taking the $100,000 Arlington Oaks. Miss Matched displayed her talent early as a 2-year-old, running second in Saratoga’s historic Spinaway Stakes (Grade 2).

Her daughter Sensible Match must also have looked “quick” and “early,” as she was purchased at the Saratoga select sale by legendary Florida pinhooking agent Jim Crupi, of Crupi’s New Castle Farm. Sure enough, Sensible Match was a speedy 2-year-old, running three times at Laurel. She broke her maiden setting all the pace in a 5 and 1/2-furlong Maiden Special Weight on the turf, after finishing second and third in her first two starts (click here for video of her maiden win). She inherited “quick” from her mother Miss Matched. We look for “quick” in the pedigrees of every horse we buy and syndicate into partnerships.

In 2021, Sensible Match produced a half-sister to Lexington Moon, a filly by Into Mischief’s exciting young son Audible. She brought $125,000 the 2022 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky summer yearling sale. Her purchaser was also a Florida pinhooker, and we expect this Audible 1/2-sister to Lexington Moon to show up in a 2-year-old sale this spring, perhaps the Fasig-Tipton Maryland sale in May, right after the Preakness.

As is our customary practice for our partnerships, we do not markup our purchase price.  Lexington Moon cost $55,000; and we have four shares remaining as of Feb. 15, 2023, at $5,500 each.  Expenses are estimated to be around $200/month per share until he starts training. He will be broken this fall at our Merryland Training Center. He has arrived at Merryland and is available for inspection.

Speak up quickly if you are interested in reserving a share in this promising young athlete from the last crop of legendary Maryland/Kentucky sire Malibu Moon.
