ANNAPOLIS-BONNIE ROSE filly
Annapolis - Bonnie Rose, by Hansel
Offering Detail
It’s hard to find Virginia-breds at auction. Only four Virginia-breds were among 238 yearlings of 2026 cataloged in the 2026 Fasig July sale. The lone Virginia-bred colt was withdrawn. Of three fillies, one was scratched, one failed to meet her reserve, and we bought the third, who was initially listed as Reserve Not Attained. We bought her post-sale for the reserve price of $30,000.
The filly is a product of historic Lazy Lane Farm (the Joe Allbritton family). After Lazy Lane star racehorse Hansel won the 1991 Preakness and Belmont Stakes, he went to stud in Kentucky; Allbritton purchased a draft of mares to support Hansel, including this filly’s South American-bred second dam Rixa. On the bottom side of the filly’s pedigree is the Hansel mare BONNIE ROSE, who won her debut at Fair Grounds going seven furlongs on the turf. Her ½- brother UNCLE ANDREW placed in the $100,000 Edward P. Evans Stakes at Colonial, also on the turf.
Her 2nd dam produced a Grade-2 winner in Brazil, on the grass. Her third dam was the top-flight Argentine mare Bambina Linda, who won her country’s premier event for 3-year-old fillies—the Grade-1 Premio Criadores—on the grass at the prestigious Palermo meet.
Her sire ANNAPOLIS is among War Front’s 26 Grade-1 winners, having won the Grade-1 Coolmore Turf Mile at Keeneland in 2022. He was an excellent turf 2-year-old as well, taking the Grade-2 Pilgrim Stakes in New York. He earned $1,581,770 before entering stud in 2024, and this filly is among his first crop of yearlings. While we certainly hope this filly is versatile enough to run well on the main track when necessary (My Miss Sophia, the dam of Annapolis, was a G2 winner on dirt), her pedigree suggests she’ll love the expansive Colonial Downs grass course (or at Laurel, or Pimlico, or Delaware.)
This filly will have lots of options for turf racing in the Mid-Atlantic, and her VA-bred status means we’ll be eligible for bonuses at several tracks. Get in the game and come racing with us!
