To Run this Simulation:Then you'll see a summary of events and expenses associated with breeding and raising your thoroughbred foal to sell at a November sale.
- Identify type of ownership for the mare and foal.Will it be single ownership, or will you have a partnership arrangement? (Note: Although the word Person is used to denote number in a partnership, ownership is in units. More than one person can own a unit. In this simulation, a two-person partnership means two units shared equally. Each unit could involve one or more persons with a variety of divisions.)
- Select one of Country Life's stallions to breed to your mare. (Help/Detail)
This simulation assumes you already have a broodmare.- Stud fee is based on the 2006 Country Life Stallion stud fees (on a live foal basis). (Help/Detail)
- Select a date to breed your mare. (Simulation assumes the "cover" on that date is successful.) (Help/Detail)
- Board and other fees can vary depending on location, whether this responsibility is contracted, and many other factors. Select whether you think your hypothetical board expenses will be high, average, or low. (Fees noted are intended to reflect the range of fees across the country. They are NOT Country Life fees.) - There are always vet bills! Depending on age of your mare, past experience, and luck, vet bills can be high, average, or low. Select one for the exercise.(Help/Detail)
- Of course you'll want to nominate your foal for the Breeders Cup and other such breeder incentive programs. If you don't think you will, simply un check the box. (Help/Detail)
